Strengthening our community
The Aussie Hands Foundation is built on the belief that connection changes lives
When people with a hand difference meet others who share similar experiences and understand how it feels, their confidence grows, isolation fades and futures feel brighter.
Aussie Hands is unique in Australia – supporting people with a hand difference. Our programs, events and research help individuals and families feel supported, informed and proud of who they are, while also building understanding and acceptance across the wider community.
These services are currently delivered by dedicated volunteers. To ensure they can continue, we rely on ongoing financial support from our community, rather than a membership fee model.
Your impact
Just $5 a week or month, from you as a Support Member, will help sustain our services around Australia:
- Safe, welcoming spaces for members to connect – through events and a private Facebook group.
- Programs and workshops to help build confidence and practical skills – such as our peer support network and learning-to-drive sessions.
- Information and resources for families, schools and health professionals – including birthday cards for young members, resource toolkits, books and brochures
- Our website with regularly reviewed and updated information and resources
- Research through the Australian Hand Difference Register (AHDR) – to improve knowledge and long-term outcomes
- Community awareness led by Ambassadors with lived experience.
Thank you for investing in a future where people with a hand difference feel seen, supported and empowered.
How that feels
“I remember a very emotional but happy moment at our first Aussie Hands picnic when Claire was about three,” recalls her mum, Danielle. “It was the first time Claire had met anyone else with a hand difference. Her face lit up when she realised there were other people like her and that moment still brings tears to my eyes.”
That feeling of connection is powerful. It reminds children, adults and families that they are not alone – that they belong to a community that understands, supports and celebrates them.
