Strengthening our community
The Aussie Hands Foundation is built on the belief that connection changes lives
When people with a hand difference meet others who share their experiences and understand how it feels, their confidence grows, isolation fades and futures feel brighter.
Aussie Hands is unique in Australia – supporting people with a hand difference. Our programs, events and research help individuals and families feel supported, informed and proud of who they are, while also building understanding and acceptance across the wider community.
We do this by providing:
- A safe environment for members to connect through events and a private Facebook group.
- Programs and workshops that help build confidence and connection – such as our peer support network and learning to drive sessions.
- Information and resources shared with families, schools and health professionals – including birthday cards for young members, resource toolkits, books and brochures
- Research through the Australian Hand Difference Register (AHDR) – improving knowledge and outcomes in the future
- Community awareness led by Ambassadors with lived experience.
These services are currently managed by dedicated volunteers but for Aussie Hands to continue providing these benefits, a commitment of support from members, rather than a membership fee, is critical.
Thank you for investing in a future where people with a hand difference feel seen, supported and empowered.
How that feels:
“I remember a very emotional but happy moment at our first Aussie Hands picnic when Claire was about three,” recalls her mum, Danielle. “It was the first time Claire had met anyone else with a hand difference. Her face lit up when she realised there were other people like her and that moment still brings tears to my eyes.”
That feeling of connection is powerful. It reminds children, adults and families that they are not alone – that they belong to a community that understands, supports and celebrates them.
