Hi I’m Mandy and living in Sydney. I’m a mum to twin 7 year old girls, Callie and Phoebe. Callie was born with symbrachydactyly of her left hand. It’s been a journey of positivity and resilience as we grow in life with our girls. I’m a mum and a casual primary school teacher with prior experience in early childhood. I love to read, go for walks in the park or the beach, craft in a past life before kids and cook new recipes too. Advocating for children and adults with differences is something I am passionate about. I have learnt a lot about parenting children with a limb difference from this great community and others on social media and would love to chat to anyone who made need someone to listen and share an understanding of what they are feeling. I am happy to meet in any capacity that you feel comfortable; phone call, text, email, or in person (within COVID restrictions). I am usually available on Sundays between 2-4pm.

Hi! I am a mum of three gorgeous children aged 13,11 and 1. Over the past 23 years I have worked with children of all ages across many fields such as childcare, nannying, American summer camps and teaching swimming. I have grown up with an Uncle who was born with a hand difference of both his hands. Being familiar with someone with a hand difference became even more close to home as at our 2 0week scan in 2019 it was discovered our baby had a hand difference of his right hand. I look forward to being able to meet and chat with other families who are learning the same news we did at our scan, who are on the same roller coaster of emotions and who are wanting to know they are not alone on this new, at times uncertain, but also incredible journey.

I am an adult with a hand difference on my left hand. I have successfully navigated through social situations, school, university and work so believe that I have a lot of positive experience and stories to share with young children and their parents. I have two children of my own (neither has a hand difference) but their experience with peers asking about my hand and how they responded is also useful for siblings.

Hello, my name is Alison and I’m a nurse, midwife and mum of a son who has a limb and hand difference. I have found that talking to other mums, who have similar experiences, has helped me immensely. I want to pass on the same help.

My name is Amanda and I live on the northside of Brisbane. I am a mother to two wonderful kids – a boy and a girl. My son Connor is 14 years old and was born with a hand difference. I would love the opportunity to support and mentor other parents and families who are navigating life with a child who has a hand difference. I am honoured to be a part of the Aussie Hands Mentor Program. I am happy to meet up in person, via video chat or simply a phone call. I am free most Saturdays during the day and most nights between 7 – 9pm for phone/video chats.
